Castleknock is a mature residential suburb beside the Phoenix Park, west of the city centre. Thanks to its wide range of housing and amenities, the area is popular with first-time buyers, young couples and those looking to trade up to larger family homes. Castleknock is six miles west of Dublin city centre, adjacent to the Phoenix Park and bounded by the Navan Road, Blanchardstown and Chapelizod.
Average house prices
Castleknock can now be divided into old Castleknock, within walking distance of the village, and new Castleknock, about a mile-and-a-half outside the village and including the area around Carpenterstown. A typical four-bed detached house in old Castleknock fetches 850,000 to 1.5m with larger five- and six-bed detached properties fetching 2m to 3m, according to Andrew Rafter of Flynn & Associates.
New Castleknock is mostly made up of new three- and four-bed semis, duplexes and apartments. A typical three-bed semi sells for 480,000 to 550,000, four-bed semis sell for 550,000 to 650,000 and two-bed apartments start at 370,000 to 400,000, depending on size, says Nigel O'Gorman of Property Team Branagan.
Type of houses
Cottages in the village rarely come to the market. Castleknock is renowned for large family houses including four-, five- and sixbed detached and semi-detached homes.
More recent development outside the village provides a range of starter homes including several three- and four-bed semidetached schemes, apartments, townhouses and duplexes, according to Rafter.
Rental market
Castleknock is a very strong letting area with huge demand. "Two-bed apartments let for around 1,100 to 1,200; three-bed semis for around 1,200 to 1,300 and fourbed semis for around 1,500 to 1,600, " according to O'Gorman.
Best streets to live in
Deer Park, Georgian Village and Castleknock Lodge are much sought-after among families looking for five-/six-bed detached homes. These properties sell for 2m to 3m, says O'Gorman. College Park, Park Avenue and College Grove are also in demand, according to Rafter. "These are large five-/six-bed detached houses on good sites and would sell for around 1.5m to 2m. The area around Auburne Avenue is also popular with prices starting around 850,000 to 1.5m for four-bed semis and detached houses."

The village has a range of shops as well as pubs and restaurants and it is also close to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.
Schools
A good range of schools such as St Brigid's NS, Castleknock College, Mount Sackville and Castleknock Community College Future development plans The new train station at Ashtown will provide further access to railway. A large site went for sale in the centre of the village recently and there is talk of developing a mixed-use housing/retail scheme there.
