It's what's on the outside that counts
Roisin Carabine

MOVING to the country permanently might be something of a culture shock for confirmed urbanites but, if you're constantly striving to create the perfect work-life balance, slipping into a world of exposed beams and brick fireplaces could be the solution.

Greenane Hall, Co Kerry is an impressive home of some 249.9sq m (2,689.68sq ft) on a 15-acre elevated site surrounded by wide skies overlooking Kenmare Bay, Beara peninsula and the Caha mountains. With a guesthouse attached onto the main property, it offers buyers the perfect opportunity to combine business with lots of pleasure.

In fact, as it's self-catering, you'll be doing very little work . . . other than thinking of new ways to attract visitors, though with those views it shouldn't be too difficult.

Completed in 1994 by a local builder, the property is divided into two, with the main residence on one end and the guest wing on the other.

Beautiful exposed beams, stone-tiled floors, grand fourposter beds and ornate carved wooden furniture combine to create a jawdroppingly gorgeous space in the main home. And not a single opportunity is missed to maximise the views with a mix of unusually large windows in every room.

The layout is mainly openplan with the living accommodation . . . lounge and dining room - in one expansive space. The ceilings are vaulted with a 30ft pitch and enhance the overall feeling of space and light.

Windows in the dining room are 15ft high and reveal views of the mountains and bay, while the large local stone fireplace acts as a focal point.

Accommodation in the main house also comprises a spacious hallway, fully fitted kitchen, two large en-suite bedrooms, guest WC and dressing room.

The guest house has three en-suite bedrooms, lounge and kitchen.

Greenane Hall is ideally located close to Killarney National Park, The Ring of Kerry Golf Club and Kenmare town, should you require other distractions other than the views.
