THE d Hotel in Drogheda has become the first fourstar hotel in the Co Louth town. The new classification means the hotel, which opened at the end of 2005, becomes only the second hotel in the county to earn the rating. "We achieved this award through offering the highest standards of consistent four-star service since we opened, " says general manager Rory Scott. "The award is recognition of the tremendous hard work all the employees and management have made since then. This classification will ensure we attract more visitors to the hotel as we have now been recognised as offering a high level of service."
According to Scott, the d Hotel's location is an important factor ensuring its popularity with a cross-section of visitors and guests. "For leisure clients it's an ideal base from which to visit the golf courses at Baltray, Seapoint and Bettystown as well as the historical Boyne Valley and Newgrange.
We're ideally based, 25 minutes from Dublin airport and just over an hour from Belfast.
"I think the award will also attract more visitors to the town of Drogheda itself, which might not always have been regarded as a tourist destination in the past." The d Drogheda has 104 bedrooms and six meeting and event suites. The hotel now has planning permission for an extra 69 bedrooms, a leisure centre and a conference centre.
The hotel is managed by Monogram hotels, who also manage the g hotel Galway and the Hotel Meyrick . . . formerly the Great Southern . . . in Galway. The Monogram is planning further expansion with new hotels expected to open in Dublin and London in the next two years.
