A QUIRKY advertising campaign by the Financial Regulator has apparently succeeded in motivating consumers to seek out the regulator's advice. According to figures to be released this week in its annual report, the Financial Regulator received 30,463 calls to its consumer information helpline in 2006. This was up on 16,637 calls to the same helpline logged in 2005.
In 2005 the Financial Regulator reported that the most frequent topic for inquries to the helpline, at 31%, were regarding banking, including loans, current accounts, savings and investment plans and questions about overcharging.
The Financial Regulator also said that approximately 6,500 people visited its information centre on College Green. Some 229,912 publications were downloaded from its www. itsyourmoney. ie consumer website.
Total demand for publications was reported as being 447,500.
