A man's home is his chteau in France
Shane McGinley

FRANCE is the number one tourist destination in the world, with almost 70 million visitors each year. Earlier this year International Livingmagazine's annual Quality of Life index 2007 reported France the best country to live in because of its low inflation, health care system and export record.

With properties on offer such as Chateau de Betous, it is easy to see why France has become so popular with both tourists and residents alike.

Set in the Bas Armagnac country, midway between Nogaro and Aignan with access to Pau, Toulouse, and Bordeaux airports and views south of the Pyrenees, the elegant house was built in 1257 by Geoffroi de Betous.

The chateau has been fully restored to its former glory with a new roof, wiring, plumbing, central heating and double-glazed windows, while the interiors of the five reception rooms, dining room, kitchen and eight en-suite double bedrooms have been retained, exemplifying the individual character of the place.

The 300-acre site also has gardens, a heated salt pool with views over the valley, outbuildings with scope for offices, function rooms or more bedrooms and staff quarters. Extensive barns and a stable area offer unlimited potential for equestrian pursuits.

The asking price is estimated to be over Euro3,675,000.
