The clothes maketh the man. . .or the Jedi

WHAT'S THE STORY?

OBI-WAN Kenobi's cloak, 007's suits and even Del Boy and Rodney's Batman and Robin costumes are on sale to the highest bidder at the biggest ever auction of "lm and TV costumes this Tuesday. You name it they've got it at the Angel Star Collection at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, London. More than 400 costumes will be sold from prices ranging up to Euro88,000 (for the Obi-Wan cloak). Customers will even be allowed to try on their desired costume before they buy it.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

"WHETHER it is the cloak of a Jedi knight from a galaxy far away or the sharpest suit worn by Her Majesty's best secret agent, our job is done if the audience are convinced by the authenticity of the costumes, " says Tim Angel, chairman of Angel, the costumiers, and "fth generation of the family "rm. "With over a century-and-a-half's worth of costumes on the racks, it seemed the right time for us to allow collectors and fans the chance to take home a piece of the movie magic."

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

THEmadness will begin on Tuesday, when a half century's worth of costumes go on sale in Bonham's. You don't need to be "lthy rich to see these works of art. If you are looking for a bargain though you could get the satin dress worn by Madonna in the "lm 'Evita' for only Euro440!

WHAT'S THE STORY?

PEOPLE cheering, flags waving and bands playing as half the world looks back on its considerable achievements. International Women's Day, this Thursday, is here to celebrate the movement which began in the early 20th century and has continued right on into the 21st, with its participants fighting tooth and nail for their aim: equality.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

ELEANOR Roosevelt once said, "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission." Over the past 100 years women can be proud that they achieved their goal in changing society for the better despite the attitudes of some men with big egos and a lot of power. On 8 March, the women will be speaking about their ambitions for the coming years.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

PARTY time! Break out the champagne and fireworks. The girls want to celebrate and, as the saying goes, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Events are being held from Alaska to Zambia, and Ireland is no exception. Palestinian People's Party speaker Nadia Harb is speaking in Liberty Hall on the topic of Women in the Struggle for Justice and Progress.
