GAELIC GAMES PREVIEWS
Enda McEvoy

All games 2.30 unless stated NHL DIVISION 1A CLARE vWEXFORD Cusack Park, Ennis Referee J Sexton (Cork) Nothing succeeds in dampening domestic disquiet like a couple of good results. After the throat clearing exercise against Down, a win here will have Clare top of the table and their manager sitting rather more comfortably than he might have been had Cork and Waterford been their first two opponents. We're scarcely jumping the gun in assuming that John Meyler might have hoped for a brighter start with Wexford. No joy for him here either.

Verdict Clare OFFALY v DOWN Birr Referee F Smith (Meath) Were this game played in Down, it'd be a fixture fraught with pitfalls for Offaly. As it's not, they won't be pleading extenuating circumstances.

Verdict Offaly WATERFORD v CORK Walsh Park Referee B Gavin (Offaly) The formbook and common sense say this will be a tight one. Waterford may have surprised themselves in Wexford Park a fortnight ago; Cork did little more against Offaly than they were expected to, though 1-21 was an encouraging score to rack up. Could go either way.

Verdict Cork DIVISION 1B ANTRIM v DUBLIN Casement Park Referee G Devlin (Armagh) An ideal fixture for both sides after their varying fortunes - Antrim's predictable heavy defeat away to Galway, Dublin's far from predictable draw with Kilkenny - on opening day.

Verdict Antrim KILKENNY v TIPPERARY Nowlan Park Referee B Kelly (Westmeath) Live, TG4, 1.55 A big match rendered bigger by the failure of the two counties to win their opener; in a group where one of the main four heads is guaranteed to roll, this pair are already playing catch-up. And a bigger match still for Tipp, in that while the home side won't be less than highly motivated (obviously), the visitors have now reached the stage under Babs where the taking of big-name scalps is no longer an aspiration but a necessity.

Verdict draw LIMERICK v GALWAY Gaelic Grounds Referee D Kirwan (Cork) Were Limerick good in Nenagh, lucky or both? No questions, however, about the vigour with which they applied themselves, the solid look of the half-back line or the sharpness of Andrew O'Shaughnessy. For Galway, here's where the learning curve begins.

Verdict Galway DIVISION 2A CARLOW vMEATH Dr Cullen Park Referee J Ryan (Tipperary) Verdict Carlow DERRY v ARMAGH Celtic Park Referee T McIntyre (Antrim) Verdict Derry WICKLOW v LAOIS Arklow Referee D Murphy (Wexford) Verdict Laois DIVISION 2B MAYO v KERRY Castlebar Referee G Hoey (Clare) VVerdict Kerry WESTMEATH v KILDARE Cusack Park, Mullingar Referee T Carroll (Offaly) VerdictWestmeath DIVISION 3A DONEGAL v LOUTH O'Donnell Park Referee M Mulholland (Derry) Verdict Louth LEITRIM vMONAGHAN Ballinamore Referee B Sweeney (Cavan) Verdict Leitrim DIVISION 3B CAVAN v TYRONE Kingspan Breffni Park Referee J O'Rourke (Monaghan) Verdict Tyrone ROSCOMMON v LONGFORD Hyde Park Referee E Shaughnessy (Galway) Verdict Roscommon
