TAYLOR SHINES AS WOMEN'S BOXING TEAM ARE TOO STRONG FOR ENGLAND

WORLD champion Katie Taylor chalked up her fourth victory of the year as an Irish women's club selection trounced a full strength English team 6-2 in Waterford on Friday night.

World number one Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, stopped Amanda Coulson - ranked ninth in the world - on the 15 point rule (19-4) in round two of a fairly one-sided contest at a packed out Dungarvan Sports Complex. Taylor's comprehensive win was all the more impressive as she had stepped up from lightweight to light welterweight.

Alana Murphy, from the Eastside club in Belfast, was also in top form, recording a 10-5 points victory over Fionna Hayes.

There were also wins for Christian McMahon, Kelly Harrington, Marsha Halpin, and Sinead Kavanagh.

Kavanagh was involved in an extremely close bout with Natasha Jonas and edged out her opponent on a count back after both boxers were locked at 16-16 at the end of the "nal round. Clara Fraher and Olga Conroy, both of the Dungarvan Boxing Club, lost out to Yasmin Rogers and Savanagh Marshall.
