THEAirport Police and Fire Service workers have issued a ballot for industrial action as they head to the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) with the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) in a dispute over an illness and injury scheme.
The ballot is set to be completed this Thursday with the vast majority of the workers likely to vote for industrial action which could potentially close Dublin Airport. However, this is not a likely scenario yet as the union involved see it as a "protective ballot" in the event that negotiations with the LRC do not succeed.
Dermot O'Loughlin of Siptu's Civil Aviation Branch told the Sunday Tribune that a claim has been lodged with the DAA for an improved injury scheme.
"Their response to our claim didn't appear to be a sincere intention on the part of the DAA to deal with us.
That is why we are going ahead with the protective ballot, " he said.
"We are not looking for an exorbitant wage increase, we just don't want our members to be financially cut-off after a work-related accident."
