THE second baby of a garda sergeant who died after giving birth to twins in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth has been transferred to the National Maternity Hospital. The three-day-old baby is understood to be in a critical condition and fighting for its life.
Tania Corcoran (34) died on Friday around 12 hours after undergoing a Caesarean section and one of her babies died a short time later.
The HSE said it is carrying out a full review into the circumstances surrounding the death. Corcoran was on temporary transfer to Ballymun from Santry and was the wife of another garda, Detective Sergeant Aidan McCabe. She is also survived by her threeyear-old son. Since 2001, fewer than 20 women have died while giving birth in Ireland.
