A BITE OF THE BIG APPLE

IN the week that I spent in New York I did, as always, come across some really great food in restaurants. The three places that stuck out in my mind were:

The Oyster Bar and Restaurant in Grand Central Station, where in this incredible location, straight out of The Godfather, you can feast on 30 different types of oysters, not to mention the huge choice of crab, shrimp, lobster, clams, sea urchins and their own smoked fish. The wine list is also pretty impressive. This is really a place to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into the great food.

Gordon Ramsey at the London Hotel. This place is quite different to the Oyster Bar, but I loved it just as much. The food was out of this world. You can eat in the restaurant or in the bar. The bar is just a slightly more casual restaurant where you can have everything tapas size, so at a good price (about $12-$15 each), you can get to try most things on the menu that are available in the more formal adjoining dining room next door. It's good for people watching too.

The Spotted Pig, 314 West 11th Street, looks like a fun little quirky English pub on two floors with pig paraphernalia everywhere, but the food is absolutely fantastic, and quite good value too. Very cool and casual.
