LRC intervenes in airport fire service row
Jim McGrath

THE Dublin Airport Authority and the Airport Police Fire Service have been invited to a hearing with the Labour Relations Commission, which is due to take place in the first week of April.

The dispute revolves around the police workers' claim for improvements to their occupational injury scheme.

The DAA says it is happy to meet with the Airport Police Fire Service but not, it says, under the threat of industrial action.

"The Dublin Airport Authority is happy to engage locally with our colleagues in the Airport Police Fire Service but not under the threat of industrial action and this has been communicated to them, " said a DAA spokesperson.

"The matter has now been referred to the Labour Relations Commission by the unions and the DAA has agreed to attend, " the spokesperson continued.

Last Thursday morning the DAA received a call from the Labour Relations Commission inviting it to a hearing, which it claims it is "happy to take part in". However the spokesperson refused to be drawn on whether or not a positive outcome was expected.

Siptu, the union that represents the police and fire service workers, had planned a protective ballot but the counting of the ballots has been postponed until Tuesday.
