In spring, a young person's fancy turns to thoughts of hot summer barbecues. With this in mind, we've put some burgers on the griddle to find the best sizzlers.
Tesco Finest 8oz Irish Angus beef burgers 2.48/454g Really a halfpounder, this large thick patty looked good at first.
Despite following grilling instructions, it turned out dry and chewy. We found it quite gristly and it was significantly greasier than the other burgers.

Aldi Crusade 4 chargrilled style quarter pounders 1.35/454g A very light and smooth burger that's lightly flavoured with artificial 'smokiness'. Alarmingly uniform and soft, this highly processed patty lacks any real bite. Quite moist and heavily seasoned, it was so unlike a traditional burger (they've added soya, we discovered after) that it failed to excite the tasters.

Marks & Spencer quarter pounder beef burgers 3.79/454g These meat patties look moist and tasted really juicy. Heavily seasoned with black pepper, they didn't deliver as intense a beef taste as first expected. Nice but unremarkable.

Superquinn fresh sirloin grill burgers 5/454g Available at the butcher's counter these quality burgers are fashioned from freshly minced sirloin. Offering the best homemade texture they proved juicy, flavoursome and beefy. A superior product.
