Cricketers killed in road accident

A SPEEDING ambulance crashed into a motorcycle in south-western Bangladesh on Friday, killing test cricketer Manjural Islam and another domestic player.

Manjural, who has played six tests and 25 limited-overs internationals, died instantly, the United News of Bangladesh agency reported. The accident took place in Khulna district, 85 miles southwest of the capital, Dhaka.

Manjural, who was not included in Bangladesh's World Cup squad, and his friend, Sajjadul Islam, were on the motorbike. Sajjadul was a player in a local cricket club.

Left-arm spinner Manjural, 22, made his one day international debut in November 2003 at the age of 19 and his test debut in the same season against Zimbabwe. He averaged 23 wickets at an average of 29.95 in the one-day format, with best figures of 4-34 and a batting average of 20.

Manjural played his last one-day international against Kenya in March 2006 at home and his last test was against India in December 2004.
