'Late Late' crasher fit to face trial after treatment
Mick McCaffrey Security Editor

THE man who confronted Pat Kenny on The Late Late Show and later drove his car into the RT building is expected to be found fit to face trial later this week.

Paul Stokes (52) has been receiving treatment at the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum since a court heard he was not fit to stand trial last January.

However, the Sunday Tribune understands that doctors will declare that the road safety campaigner is now mentally competent to face three charges when his case comes up for mention next Friday.

Stokes, from Monkstown, Co Dublin, is charged with harassing Pat Kenny, criminal damage and causing a serious danger to members of the public.

The harassment charge is likely to be dropped but Stokes will be tried for the other two charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

He has been charged in connection with an incident where a car was driven at the revolving door of the main RT television building in Donnybrook on 2 December last.

At a previous court hearing, Stokes, who claims to have invented a system to cut down on road deaths, said that he had been "forcibly injected" at the Central Mental Hospital and resented this. Garda requested that he be held in custody for his own safety.

Paul Stokes first came to public attention last November after he confronted a shocked Pat Kenny during The Late Late Show.

He told the stunned presenter: "You are a censor, how dare you. You and Gay Byrne are insufferable arseholes. You're an arsehole.

You're a piece of shit."
