UCD were desperately unlucky to lose to Cork Con and in fact led by 21-18 on 80 minutes.
The home side had led the game throughout the first 60 minutes and it was only a breakawy run by Cork Con's Denis Hurley and a neat pass to centre Daniel Nethery on 60 minutes that brought Cork Con on to level terms.
UCD showed their intentions straight from the kick off and dominated the early minutes. They were rewarded by a try after six minutes when they drove Cork Con back during a lineout maul and Kevin Croke touched down as the maul kept moving forward. But messy defence by UCD minutes later produced a five metre scrum for Con and after a series of mauls Ed Leamy went over.
UCD showed great continuity with outhalf Ian Keatley calling all the shots. Indeed Keatley put up a great high kick across field and the ball bounced favourably for Croke to score his second try with Fergus McFadden taking an easy conversion.McFadden scored two further penalties in the first half but Richard Lane kept Con in the hunt with two penalties of his own.
It looked as if UCD had the match won when McFadden put his side ahead at 21-18 on 78 minutes. One minute into extra time Richard Lane levelled the scores and four minutes later a heartbreaking runaway try by winger Cronan Healy finished off the students hopes.
