GARDAI are to recommend that five people be charged in the case where a 14-year-old boy met a number of men on the internet and had sex with them. The Sunday Tribune understands that detectives believe there is enough evidence to bring three statutory rape charges and two of procuring a minor.
A language teacher, a lorry driver and another man face being charged with raping the boy while a trainee garda and an official from the chief state solicitor's office could be charged with procuring the youngster.
A file on all five will shortly be sent to the DPP, recommending that they be prosecuted, while an investigation into a sixth man, a docks worker, is continuing.
The mother of the boy, from north Dublin, approached gardai on 21 February after finding a number of sexually explicit text messages on his mobile phone.
An investigation determined that he had been accessing the Gaydar website and had made contact with several older men.
It has now been ascertained that he had sex with three of these but the men are claiming the boy told them he was 17.
