FIVE TO FOLLOW AT AUGUSTA
Compiled by Mark Jones

PAUL CASEY

Age 29
World ranking 14
2007 form Won Abu Dhabi Championship, T5 Accenture Match Play, T9 CA Championship
Major wins None
Masters record 2 appearances, T6 2004

With infinitely more birdie chances available than at a US Open, Augusta is the ultimate test of controlled aggression. A much-improved Casey certainly has the aggression, and if he can add the necessary control, he could be in the mix next Sunday.

Betting 33-1 (prices courtesy of Paddy Power)

RETIEF GOOSEN

Age 38
World ranking 9
2007 form won Qatar Masters, 4th Johnnie Walker Classic, T5 Abu Dhabi Championship Major wins (2) US Open 2001, 2004
Masters record 8 appearances; runner-up 2002, T3 2005 & '06

Even if he has had to battle for some consistency over the past 12 months, and even if at one stage it seemed that his best major days might have been over, rule Goosen out at your peril. Still a majestic ball striker and a lethal fast-green putter with an impressive Augusta track record.

Betting 28-1

JOSE MARIA OLAZABAL

Age 41
World ranking 28
2007 form T13 Nissan Open Major wins (2)
Masters 1994, 1999
Masters record 19 appearances; winner twice, 6 top 10s, T3 last year

A long course which puts immense pressure on the wayward driver . . . on that basis you shouldn't really give Olazabal a prayer. Yet, time and again, Augusta seems to inspire him to produce his best golf. If he has a good week off the tee, the Spaniard still has the sufficient temperament and short game to silence the big-hitting brigade.

Betting 50-1

TREVOR IMMELMAN

Age 27
World ranking 12
2007 form 3rd Accenture Match Play, top 10s Mercedes, Arnold Palmer Invitational
Major wins None
Masters record 3 appearances, T5 2005, missed cut last year

You get the feeling that it's not a question of if Immelman is going to win a major, but when. A gifted amateur who has matured into one of the world's finest players, the South African has the all-round game to finally make the breakthrough at Augusta.

Betting 50-1

GEOFF OGILVY

Age 29
World ranking 8
2007 form Runnerup Accenture Match Play, T3 CA Championship
Major wins (1) US Open 2006
Masters record 1 appearance T16

Augusta is a place you usually have to grow into, a place where for most players an apprenticeship has to be served. In modern times, Fuzzy Zoeller is a rarity in that he showed up in 1979 and won at the first attempt. It will be asking a lot of Oglivy to win at only his second attempt, but if Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson falter, he could well be a contender.

Betting 40-1
