War settled thanks to Wallace
Ross Heppenstall Stadium of Light

COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDERLAND 2 WOLVES 1

ROY KEANE got the better of Wolves boss Mick McCarthy as Sunderland further enhanced their promotion prospects.

Goals from Daryl Murphy and Ross Wallace put Keane's men 2-0 ahead after 63 minutes but Wolves hit back almost immediately through Andy Keogh.

That ensured a tense finish but Sunderland held on to extend their unbeaten run to 15 games.

Keane would deny it but he will relish this victory like no other. There were no handshakes or peace gestures this time around and with precious points at stake there was no disguising how much a positive result would mean to both.

The momentum came for Sunderland in the 15th minute when Murphy produced produced a brilliant left-foot volley to open the scoring. Wolves were hanging on before Murphy set up a Wallace header at the far post on 63 minutes, and Keogh's immediate response proved insufficient.
