Lane on "re as Cork Con lead Terenure on a merry dance

AIB LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CORK CONSTITUTION 62 TERENURE COLLEGE 12 Temple Hill

CORK Constitution guaranteed themselves top spot and a home semi-final in the All Ireland League with a ninetry demolition of Terenure College at Temple Hill yesterday.

Richie Lane racked up an incredible 37 points, including four tries, as Con's devastating offloading and lines of running left the Dubliners chasing shadows at the sundrenched Cork venue.

Con came flying out of the blocks, racking up 15 points in as many minutes. Richie Lane converted a simple penalty before Denis Hurley's garryowen caused mayhem in the Dubliners' defence, and quick turnover ball allowed Dan Nethery the easiest of scores on the left.

Lane missed the conversion, but made amends in the 15th minute when he finished off a stunning move, featuring two sumptuous offloads from the outstanding Tom Gleeson. He converted his own score for a 15-0 lead, but Nure hit back immediately with a Mark Mahoney try.

Robert McCarthy added the extras, but the score only served to annoy the home side. Lane crossed again in the 27th minute after Darragh Lyons' inside pass had bamboozled the visitors' defence, and Gleeson powered over eight minutes later after another piece of deft handling from Lyons. Lane converted both, but sloppy defending gave Nure a lifeline through a Shane Cullen try to leave them trailing 2912 at the break.

However, Con made the game safe on 50 minutes when Hurley ducked and dived past three defenders to score at the posts. The fullback again did the damage on 62 minutes before sending Lane over for his hattrick score, and Ross Noonan, Lane and scrum-half David O'Leary all crossed as Con ran riot in the final stages, securing a resounding 50-point victory over the visitors.
