A PURPOSE-built sports hotel designed by rugby legend Keith Wood has opened in Mayo. The 30m Breaffy International Sports Hotel in Castlebar combines top class accommodation with state-of-the-art sports facilities.
Situated within the 90 acre Breaffy House Resort, the 120-bed hotel incorporates 24 luxury residences, designed by Paul Costello, a 30,000sq ft multi-purpose indoor sports arena, specialised physiotherapy rooms and eight muscle recovery ice baths.
The Lynch Hotel-owned facility also features a 50piece elite fitness gymnasium, a number of football pitches including a multifunctional astroturf pitch and an adjacent 20-meter swimming pool, as well as a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
Former Ireland and Lions rugby star Keith Wood, who was commissioned as a design consultant, says:
"What sets the hotel apart is the dedicated attention to detail. Nothing has been left to chance in providing a range of specialist facilities for sports training at a level unmatched in Ireland if not across western Europe.
"The bonus of on-site training pitches designed to rugby, Gaelic games and soccer specifications, is augmented by the range of state of the art gymnasium facilities and the sports arena which in my experience combine to provide an unrivalled all purpose package ideal for all sports training camp programmes."
"Our target audience are clubs from both inside Ireland and abroad, " says Lynch Hotels marketing director, David Byrne.
"This will lead to a substantial boost for Ireland by way of inbound sports tourism and the creation of a great domestic demand".
