CDs of the week - Jazz

Sainkho Namchylak & Roy Carroll Tuva-Irish Live Music Project Leo Records . . .

Namchylak is one of the best known practitioners of Tuvan throat singing, producing a series of overtones with a single voice.

Carroll is Ireland's leading pioneer of music technology, in particular concentrating on the art of improvisation using electronics.

The two met in Ireland, and the music refers to similarities the singer observed with her native Tuva, but this extraordinary recording, combining Carroll's loops and soundscapes with Namchylak's unique vocalisations, was made in Berlin where Carroll is now based. Weird but in its own way, entirely wonderful.

Download: 'Hill Tara', 'Sonata for a Typewriter' Cormac Larkin
