TRIED & TASTED MULTI-GRAIN BREAD
Jillian Bolger

Wholegrain bread is not only really tasty, it's much better for you than the white processed stuff. We separare the wheat from the chaff.

Brennan's Crunchy Sevengrain 500g /1.72 Nice seed crust but the centre of the slice fails to live up to expectations.

Pale looking with cottony taste, we expected more complexity and better texture.

Tasters needed to chew quite thoroughly to discover any nuggets of seed. Disappointing.

The LifeFibre Co High Fibre Seed Bread 550g /3.11 A dark, rich bread that's beautifully moist and brimming with flavour. Chocfull of seeds the dense crust is covered in crunchy sesame seeds. All four seed types are easy to taste, making this a nutty, filling pleasure to eat. Expensive but so delicious!

*****

Pat the Baker Multi-Grain Brown Sliced 800g /1.79 The dull plain crust surrounds a moist bread that has a nice, subtle malt flavour. The bread is speckled with poppy seeds which add a little piquant crunch. Quite good bite but a little lacking in flavour.

*** Vogel's Swiss Style Mixed Grain Brown Bread 800g /2.21 A pale, soft loaf that's dry with a cottony mouth feel. The kibbled wheat lends a welcome and much needed bite, but this bread lacks any real character or appeal.

No stars
