ACT is the label that brought the Esbjorn Svensson Trio to the world, and while Italian trio of pianist Paolo Paliaga, bassist Dino Contenti and drummer Gigi Biolcati are their own musicians, there are similarities that will make the cynical suspicious. The cool Scandinavian tones have been replaced by Mediterranean warmth but the insistent, rock-inflected grooves and the whole-band sound will certainly appeal to EST fans.

There is a freshness and originality here too though, springing from the Mediterranean well of music that references north Africa and the middle east as well as Europe.
