UNSEASONAL hot weather today is expected to affect the Great Bupa Ireland Run in Dublin's Phoenix Park. Sonia O'Sullivan and 9,000 other runners are advised to bring plenty of water and apply suncream ahead of the 10km race.
Organisers have advised that runners drink plenty of water before the race begins at 1pm. "There will be plenty of water on the course and at the finish but runners are also advised to bring extra water with them to drink beforehand and to apply suncream, " a race spokesman advised yesterday.
Today's run will be O'Sullivan's final race in Dublin.
Speaking on Newstalk 106FM yesterday, she too advised participants to be well prepared for the sunshine.
Met �ireann said that temperatures this week are not expected to top yesterday's but would nonetheless remain higher than usual throughout the country for this time of year. Highest temperatures yesterday reached 21�C in Kilkenny but today's forecast for most of the country is a couple of degrees less. Warm and hazy sunshine is forecast over Dublin city today. It will become cloudy in parts and there may be rain in the northwest in the late afternoon, according to meteorologist Siobhan Ryan.
Temperatures will remain in the late teens into the middle of the week as "dry and settled weather in most places will continue", she added.
