Gadgets that help you to spot the hotspot 13
Damien Mulley

Damien Mulley sifts through the Wi-Fi detectors on the market for those who like to stay mobile

With every man, woman, child, cat and dog now owning a mobile phone and bringing it everywhere with them, wireless headsets for phones are becoming more and more useful, especially in the office and in the car. We've looked at four headsets this week.

Nokia BH200 Bluetooth Headset Price: 55 from O2. ie LIMITED by the fact that it will only work with other Nokia handsets, the BH-200 offers around five hours of talk time and about 150 hours of standby time. Standard features on the headset include voice dialing, redial and audio transfer.

Immensely easy to use, like all Nokias, this basic headset is good value for money if you are Nokia phone owner.

Motorola H670 Price: 59 from Carphone Warehouse.

THE Motorola H670 Bluetooth headset is backward compatible with older bluetooth versions and works with most bluetooth phones as well as with other bluetooth-enabled devices such as laptops.

So, as well as receiving mobile calls, you can receive Skype calls via your laptop with it, too. The H670 has a battery life of six hours of talk time (eight days of stand by time) and multifunction capabilities. The multicolor LEDs of the Motorola bluetooth headset specify the headset status.

Blue Butterfly Bluetooth Headset Price: 49 While not a well-known brand this side of the Atlantic, the Blue Butterfly is a little more stylish than the average dull headsets available and is one of the lighter of the headsets, ideal for those contantly on the phone. With 10 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby time, the Blue Butterfly is great value for money. But with a range of only 10m, it might not suit the person that goes on long walkabouts while on the phone.

Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Car Speakerphone HCB-100 Price: around 300 when released in the next few weeks This device is more unusual than the other headsets in that it rests on your car visor, or stands on its own at your desk, and acts as a speakerphone .

For those that don't want to look like a member of the secret service or just don't like having a device hanging on their ear, this is ideal. The HCB-100 has an amazing 20 hours of talk time and 600 hours of standby time. It has noise and echo reduction features built-in and is compatible with a large range of mobile phones. A nice additional feature is that it can connect to up to five different handsets and simple colour coding allows you to switch between them all. The biggest drawback for this phone accessory is the price tag, which is more expensive than a lot of business phones.
