HOT SHOTS

GOLD STANDARD It's fair to say that Ireland doesn't have a beach culture, which is why all sorts of unspeakable fashion crimes can occur when we visit sunnier climes. Take some pointers from Miss Kylie Minogue, whose status as a classic style icon and a native Aussie make her an authority figure on fabulous swimwear.

The boho floral stuff is very in but we think we might prefer the metallics. The gold top (pictured) is a ridiculously cheap 11.90. Available from H & M.

BEND ME, SHAPE ME All hail the May bank holiday weekend, which really does herald the beginning of the summer. Now, you could spend it in a haze of barbecues and imbibing or you could do something that little bit different and book into a lyengar yoga workshop and the East Clare Yoga Centre in Tuamgraney, Co Clare.

Lyengar is a pure form of hatha yoga, emphasising precision and alignment, and this workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

The cost per person is 390 and includes 13 hours of yoga tuition, accommodation and meals, and airport or train pick up/drop off. For more details, tel 061 640923 and email info@eastclareyoga. com.

IT'S ONLY NATURAL If you build it, they will come. Every garden has the potential to be a habitat for an enormous variety of flora and fauna, according to Professor Stefan Buczacki's new book, The Wildlife Gardener.

He asks us to reevaluate our conventional concepts of gardening, where any plant or animal that prevents our flowers beds from growing the way we'd like them to is perceived to be undesirable. Instead, we should welcome plants that mightn't be very useful to us, but which are important for other creatures, thus maintaining the genetic diversity of home-grown plants and providing insects and animals with food that is becoming increasingly scarce in the wild. Want to attract some hedgehogs? They will travel considerable distances to find food and a garden with a population of slugs and snails will always appeal to them.

IN LICKNESS AND HEALTH What's that sound, you say? Why, it's the noise of a hundred and one wedding invites arriving through your wedding box. The matrimonial season has truly kicked in, and Philip Treacy hats around the country are being taken out of their boxes and dusted off.

Much has been made of the escalating cost of weddings but one cheap and cheerful way of announcing your special day is posting off your invites affixed with one of An Post's new wedding stamps. A book of 10 costs 5.50.

Walking Sunday is an annual tradition in which the people of Naas and Kildare walk the course at Punchestown on the Sunday before the festival meet. It takes place today between 2pm and 5pm. It's been a waning tradition of late so there's a big push on this year to get families to come along and have some good, healthy fun in the fresh air. There will be walking-achievement certificates for children, rosettes for dogs who come along for the walk, music, a carnival, a children's fancy dress competition and the opportunity to win prizes, including a family holiday.

Keen for colour but still not quite ready to go to the bright side? Take baby steps with this brilliant disco-tastic clutch from River Island, 33.50

THE MARK OF ZARA There are so many international highstreet stores in Ireland now that it's ruined shopping expeditions abroad just that little bit.

Remember when you'd make for the nearest H&M in European cities, and come back with armfuls of cool clothing, for next to nothing, to the envy of your friends?

One store that still hasn't graced our shores is Zara Home, which is a pity, as the stock is wonderful but it's not as easy to transport plates back as it is a few dresses.

Check out its wonderful bed linen, chandeliers and candle holders at www. zarahome. com.

WIN TICKETS TO THE GARDEN PARTY Music legends the Pet Shop Boys, the astoundingly brilliant Hot Chip, Carl Cox and techno producer Vitalic are some of the acts lined up for this year's Garden Party, taking place on 9 June in the walled gardens of Ballinlough Castle, Co Meath. With therapy on the lawns, hammockology, and plenty of bean bags to lounge around on when the dancing leaves you tired, it's the obvious ticket choice for those who like their good music but don't fancy a three-day affair. Having said that, limited camping tickets are available for the first time this year, if you don't want to lose out on the tent experience.

Day tickets cost 79 and we have three doubles to give away. To enter, answer the following question and email your name, address and contact details to hotshots@tribune. ie: Complete the following Pet Shop Boys song title: 'West Endf
