LAST week's Sunday Tribune reported that O'Herlihy Communications had been replaced as public relations agents for Swim Ireland in September 2006. O'Herlihy Communications has asked us to point out that it formally resigned from that position in August 2006 as Swim Ireland's budget for public relations did not make it financially viable for the company to continue in the role.
In an article published on 18 March last concerning child abuser George Gibney, we referred to a child who had been raped by Gibney and stated that she "feigned an injury to get out of swimming in a competition and was referred to a doctor appointed by the Olympic Council of Ireland".
Solicitors for the OCI have asked us to clarify that the OCI did not refer the child in question to a doctor.
We are happy to clarify these matters.
