Celtic defender Darren O'Dea is not buying into the idea of the Tennent's Scottish Cup final becoming a farewell show for Neil Lennon. The 35-year-old Celtic captain revealed on Wednesday that he will quit Parkhead after the Hampden showpiece against Dunfermline on May 26.
The former Northern Ireland mid"elder's last appearance is sure to evoke an emotional response from the Hoops fans who, for the most part, have backed the controversial character during his seven years at Parkhead. But O'Dea, 20, refuted the notion that the Celtic players would be trying to win the cup for his fellow Irishman.
It's about winning it for the team and I'm sure he will say the same, " O'Dea said. "Obviously it will be great for him but we just want to win. He will be a massive loss on and off the pitch but it happens in football. He has been a great servant for the club but we have to move on."
O'Dea made his debut in September and has managed to rack up enough games to ensure a championship medal.
"I'm delighted with the way the season has gone for me, " the Dubliner said. "I've played 13 SPL games so I will get a medal. I've got my mum and dad coming over so it will be a proud day for me and my family."
