Limerick side Bruff shaded an exciting AIL Division 3 final against Dublin side Wanderers on a scoreline of 18-12 at Templeville Road yesterday, the Limerick side's two tries proving all the difference in the end.
Wanderers opened the scoring after 18 minutes when out-half Billy Treacy posted the first of his four penalties from in front of the post. Four minutes later Bruff equalised when out-half Brian Cahill scored a penalty from 35 metres. Then four minutes later Bruff struck for their first try through Cathal O'Regan. Cahill converted to leave them 10-3 ahead. Then on 35 minutes Cahill slotted over his second penalty to extend the lead for Bruff. But two penalties from Treacy brought Wanderers to within four points at the interval.
Twenty-one minutes after the break, Treacy posted his fourth penalty to bring the score to 13-12. But just on full time, Bruff sealed it with their second try from full back Brendan Deady.
