CLAIMS by a Sunday newspaper that prices at Supervalu shops in Kerry were 11% higher than prices in Tesco came from the British supermarket multiple and not from a study by independent research company Red C as had been initially reported.
Red C, managing director, Richard Colwell, told the Sunday Tribune that it was a mistake by reporters in the Sunday Times.
"We carried out research about the work-scene of the shopper in Kerry, giving figures on market research.
They used those but Tesco also had their own internal work on price differentials.
We did nothing on that. In the course of writing the article Tesco's research got transposed in with ours, " he said.
"The article should have read Tesco claims and not Red C claims. They will be printing a retraction on Sunday, " he added.
