Finsceal Beo the worthy favourite
Claire Barry

FINSCEAL BEO will be bidding to give trainer Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning some compensation for Teofilo's unfortunate setback when she goes to post for today's Stan James 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Owned by Michael Ryan from Kilgobnet in Co Waterford, who also owns Aintree winner Al Eile, Finsceal Beo has been ante-post favourite for the fillies' Classic for quite some time. Having captured the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp last October and followed up in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket two weeks later, she was duly crowned champion filly at the end of the season and is a worthy favourite.

Finsceal Beo may be having her first outing of the season this afternoon but unlike Teofilo, her preparations for the 1,000 Guineas have gone very much according to plan.

Finsceal Beo is not the only Irish-trained runner in the race. The opposition includes John Oxx's Leopardstown winner Arch Swing, the mount of Michael Kinane, Kevin Prendgerast's Goffs Million winner Miss Beatrix, with Declan McDonogh aboard, and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Theann.

Scarlet Runner and Sander Camillo, who finished first and second in a Group 3 race at Newmarket on their seasonal reappearance, represent the obvious dangers to Finsceal Beo. There was just a neck between them then, but Sander Camillo has a good chance of turning the tables on her rival under Frankie Dettori.
