Irish film 'Garage' gets the nod for Cannes Following up the success of The Wind That Shakes The Barley, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, another Irish movie is set to make an impact at this year's festival which opens on 16 May.
Lenny Abrahamson's Garage, written by Mark O'Halloran and starring comedian Pat Shortt, has been selected for the hugely influential Director's Fortnight and is described by artistic director Olivier Pere as "very beautifully made and very moving with an amazing performance from Pat Shortt, who will be the great discovery of the international audience this year". Garage, which also stars Anne-Marie Duff, is produced by Ed Guiney, who also produced Abrahamson's much-acclaimed debut feature Adam & Paul.
Shortt plays a hapless caretaker for a run-down petrol station in the midwest of Ireland who sees his life changed forever over the course of a summer.
