Garda reserves graduate

THE second group of garda reserves graduated at the Garda College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, yesterday. The 32 male and 16 female reservists will soon begin serving at locations nationwide. They include bus drivers, bankers, teachers and engineers.

The first batch of 36 trainees became members of the Garda Reserve on 15 December last.

Three killed in road accidents

THREE people have been killed in road accidents in Co Dublin and Co Down.

Two people were killed in a collision involving a car and a lorry on the N2 Finglas to Ashbourne Road at Ward's Cross around 9am yesterday.

The male passenger of the truck was killed and the driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female driver of the car was also killed. In Co Down, a man died in a single vehicle crash on the Ballyvally Road in Mayobridge shortly before 1.30am yesterday.

'Multicultural' games

THE Community Games is this weekend facilitating the participation of children seeking asylum and children from disadvantaged areas in its May Festival of Sport at Mosney, Co Meath. Fifteen resident children seeking asylum and 200 children from disadvantaged areas were given free places.

The organisers said it was an attempt to "reflect Ireland's diverse multiculturalism and give all children a chance for fun".
