Kenny relegated as Lennon says goodbye to Celtic Park
Sam Allen

SOCCER ROUND-UP

STEPHEN KENNY'S Dunfermline were finally relegated to Scotland's first division after a goalkeeping howler from Dorus De Vries and an unfortunate deflection condemned them to a 21 defeat at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. It means, despite the Cup successes, the Irishman's first season ends in disappointment and that Dunfermline's sevenyear tenure in the SPL comes to an end.

Dunfermline had gone ahead when Jim McIntyre volleyed home on 37 minutes, but with the anxiety mounting, keeper De Vries allowed a Richard Hastings free-kick to slip through his fingers.

Rory McAlliser then sealed their fate in the final minute with a drive that cannoned off Phil McGuire and in.

Meanwhile Neil Lennon said farewell to Celtic Park in the best manner possible as Celtic defeated Aberdeen 2-1, in the process denying their opponents a Uefa Cup place. .

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink opened the scoring on 32 minutes, with the Hoops immediately capitalising after Artur Boruc saved a Jamie Smith penalty. When Darren McKie finally did get one for Aberdeen it was swiftly cancelle out by Vennegoor of Hesselink again.
