Ilmiliekki Quartet Take it with Me TUM Records Oy . . .
Already making a name for themselves around Europe, and one of the hits of the recent 12 POINTS! festival in Dublin, Ilmiliekki will go far if they keep this up. The opening track is a wistful and tender reading of the Tom Waits ballad that gives the album its name, taken at glacial pace, eschewing technique and volume in favour of depth.
Trumpeter Verneri Pohjola leads from the front, with a gentle touch and a soulful ear, that makes these young Finns unusual in a generation more given to bombast and bravado than soul.
