DER SILBERSEE (KURT WEILL)
Weill's crossover "play with music" has undergone numerous adaptations but this affectionate tale of a policeman's efforts to right a wrongdoing will be presented in its original form. The libretto will, however, be sung in English, in a new translation by British comedian Rory Bremner. Keith Warner directs with ex'EastEnders' actress Anita Dobson starring in her first opera as the infamous housekeeper.

PULCINELLA (I STRAVINSKY) This double-bill of one-act "commedia dell'arte" has already been received with acclaim in Bologna and Lugo. Lucio Dalla has thrust both characters into modern day settings, which will underscore the frenetic energy and amorality of the originals.

RUSALKA (A DVORAK) 'Rusalka' is one of the most popular operas ever written and the most conventional on the 2007 Wexford Festival bill. Considered by many to be Dvorak's masterpiece, his score for this enchanting fairytale of nymph Rusalka's ill- fated love for a human prince, is one of his most popular.

LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN ( BIZET/ BROOK) Peter Brook's 1981 adaptation of 'Carmen' condenses all of the action, and more, into a chamber opera, retaining much of the best-loved musical moments of Bizet's score. Andrew Steggall directs and Gavin Carr conducts the Orchestra of the Wexford Festival Opera.

RITA (DONIZETTI) This one-act opera is typically Donizetti . . . a comedy full of twists and turns. This performance is pianoaccompanied.

LA VOIX HUMAINE (POULENC) This one-act tragedy boasts just one singer, originally Denise Duval but here Lauren Curnow. Poulenc's score is a testament to the tension and anxiety of the scene.
