BEST FILMS

Van Helsing (2004) Today, TV3, 9pm Monster hunters, where would the world be without them, wha? Hugh Jackman stars as Gabriel Van Helsing who travels to Eastern Europe to check out a scrap between a wolf man and Dracula, or something equally dim.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) Friday, Channel 6, 10.30pm Hilarious comedy classic starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin as con men trying to wrangle $50,000 from rich women in France.

I Heart Huckabees (2004) Friday, RTE Two, 9.25pm One of the best films of 2004 comes in the form of this quirky gem about a team of existential detectives (Dustin Hoffman and Isabelle Huppert) who are treating and spying on a group of four very different people (Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Mark Wahlburg and Jason Schwartzman). Hilarious slapstick backed up by a bizarre philosophy (and a cameo from Shania Twain).

A Ma Soeur! (Fat Girl) (2001) Saturday, Channel 4, 2.55am Another controversial film from Catherine Breillat which centres around female sexual awakening.

When a family takes a Mediterranean holiday, one daughter begins an affair with an Italian student while the other plays covert voyeur.

Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels (1998) Saturday, TV3, 12.30am British gangsta flick that catapulted Guy Ritchie into the A-list and eventually into Madonna's arms. It's a gritty, fast moving fun enough complicated heist film, although the slag is often indecipherable.
