SAIL OF THE CENTURY

ACCORDING to the European Cruise Council 22,978 Irish people chose a cruise holiday in 2005 (figures aren't available for 2006 yet) with demand for cruising up 152% from ten years ago. In case you thought it was all about the cabaret and bingo brigade crammed into ferry-sized cabins, think again. Cruising is a luxurious affair, a great all-in holiday, a romantic choice for honeymooners and a gourmet extravaganza for the epicure. With more cruise companies than ever plying our waters it's easier than ever to hit the high seas from an Irish port too. Set sail with these three great trips.

Polar Express Kingdom of the Polar Bear is an eight-night cruise around Spitsbergen in the Arctic departing every Thursday from 7 June to 16 Aug 2007. Taking place during the northern summer months when the sun never sets, there's the opportunity to witness polar bears in their natural habitat. The cruise offers an on-board team of experts who host regular excursions and lectures. From 5,758 per person sharing, including flights from Dublin, transfers and full board voyage in an inside cabin.
