DIARMUID GAVIN Celebrity gardener

If I have time to myself. . . I try to read Selling plants in the world's smallest garden centre. It's in Brown Thomas Dublin.

A phrase I use far too often is. . . That's mad.

A common misperception of me is. . . That I'm arrogant. Someone told me that yesterday, a journalist actually. A lot of people say that. And I'd say to them that I'm not arrogant, just definite and determined.

I wish that people would take more notice of. . . The environment. We're just wrecking the planet but if we start small, we can all do something to help turn things around.

I'm good at. . . Planting.

I'm very bad at. . . Any form of DIY. I can't put a nail in a wall or anything like that.

You know me as a gardener, but in another life I'd have been. . . A show jumper. In summer of 2006 I presented the BBC's charity show jumping event Only Fools on Horses for Sport Relief. I got really into it.

The best age to be is. . . Now. I'm in my early 40s, have a great wife, a fantastic daughter, and am moving back to Ireland after living in London.

'I'm not arrogant, just determined' If I wasn't talking to you right now, I'd be. . .
