TOURISM Ireland, has won the advertising campaign of the year at the inaugural all Ireland marketing awards. Beating off stiff ccompetition, the group won the award for their 2006 global campaign which reached an estimated global audience of 200m and reflected Ireland's core strengths according to Brian Twomey, head of marketing communications with Tourism Ireland.
"The campaign unashamedly reflects the beautiful scenery, the warmth of the people and the living and historic culture which have always resonated so well with our visitors, " he said.
Tourism Ireland, pointed out that tourism figures for Ireland were up 8% in 2006 and this "reflected the strength" of the campaign.
The group are now carrying out a major review of the Ireland brand and recently appointed international brand strategy consultants Enterprise IG to assist them.
"The review will be comprehensive, incorporating all aspects from a tourism perspective and will include extensive research amongst consumers and trade in overseas markets, as well as consultation with both industry and stakeholders on the island of Ireland, " said Twomey.
