FIAT are not the only motor company going back to the future as the summer launch of the 500 approaches.
Citroen is working on a successor to the CV2 and it is intended for the family market, according to reports from Citroen/Peugeot PSA HQ.
Reinventing classic models seems to be the "in" thing at the moment and the ugly duckling charm of the CV2 is still a fond memory. The criteria for the success of the CV2 all those years ago was that it would be able to transport a basket of eggs across a ploughed field without breaking any of them. Obviously it succeeded and the car became very much a farm vehicle in its early life but trendy about-town transport in later life.
The minimalist look will be retained with the slatted bonnet but this time around the panels will be made of plastic and the engine could well be a diesel hybrid to satisfy the green-minded motorists.
A C3 chassis may be the foundation but unlike the original where everything was basic and cheap the new offering will have hitech equipment as, mon dieu, it will be competing against such prestige models as the BMW Mini.
