Addressing the Annual Convention in Druids Glen last weekend, president of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) Sean Mason called on the new government to restructure the operations of the Private Residential Tenancies Board.
He proposed that the registration process of tenancies be transferred to the local authorities, leaving the PRTB to deal with dispute resolutions, in order to tighten up needless delays.
"The average waiting time at present [to register tenancies] is eight months and is far too long for both landlords and tenants to have to wait, " said Mason Mason also said the obligation to register all tenancies was unnecessary and proposed a requirement to register a rented unit once every four years for an agreed fee as a more practical solution.
