CUFFE KERFUFFLE OVER LATE-NIGHT BLOGGING

DUN Laoghaire Green TD Ciaran Cuffe may have blogged his way out of coalition with Fianna Fail after that late-night post on his blog (http: //cuffestreet. blogspot. com/).

In a post published in the wee small hours of Sunday night/Monday morning, Cuffe described a Green coalition with Fianna Fail as a "deal with the devil" . . . and added a link to the Wikipedia entry for that phrase in case anyone was confused.

This was duly noted by several other media outlets who were, we think, a tad unfair about it.

Publius thinks that. if anything, Cuffe should be praised for walking the walk on transparency and stubbornly insisting on acting like a normal human being.

Unfortunately, normal human beings tend to occasionally do things like hit the "publish" button on blogging software after a rant tapped out after midnight.

Will we have our "rst minister who doesn't need to learn about blogging from his kids or, we suspect, have someone put music on his iPod for him? Or are we not quite ready for all that?

Whatever else, Publius has to express respect for Cuffe in one regard. A pol who didn't 'get' the whole radical transparency thing of this interweb thingy would have at least attempted to delete the post, post haste. The cause of the Cuffe Kerfuf"e is still there in all its glory.

GREENS WALK THE WALK FOR THE PRESS

ONE other note of respect to the Greens. When they sent out pics of the party from the campaign to the meeja, they didn't email a large file to everybody in town. They sent a link to an account they'd set up on the photosharing website, Flickr.

This is reduce, reuse, recycle for the digital world. Sending the pictures to everyone would have wasted space on the server and in the email account of each recipient, not to mention the electricity required.

PR companies, take note.

Get a photosharing account for your clients and do your bit to save the planet.

DANCE, MONKEYBOYS, DANCE

WE love the Halifax executions (above) from Publicis QMP. Who knew you could actually make ads for a bank that would make them seem, well, cool?

This spot, featuring two Halifax boys confronted in a back alley by 'bankers' . . . actually shot in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River . . . seems like it's about to break out into another rumble. Instead, it turns into a dance-off.

Even if this is a response to complaints . . . can you believe it . . . to the ASAI about the first execution, set in a St Stephen's Green Halifax branch and featuring homages to a score of kung-fu, Western and samurai flicks. Amongst other complaints the IBOA said it made employees of other banks seem violent. Actually the IBOA complaint just made employees of other banks seem humourless.

CONTAGIOUS INTEREST IN NEW MEDIA

LAST week we mentioned that Cawley Nea/TBWA was bringing over new media marketing guru Jessica Greenwood of Contagious magazine.

Well-attended for an 8.30am start . . . these are marketing people, after all . . . Greenwood got the crowd oohing and ahhing for some of the new, new things we're all trying to get to grips with. Like the dynamite thrown into a river causing surfable waves video for Quiksilver surfer gear (check YouTube . . . it's worth it). More thoughts on her presentation next week.

Gossip-wise, Today FM's Willie O'Reilly was also in attendance, sprinting to the front of the class to be the "rst to shake Greenwood's hand. Words were exchanged but Publius was not close enough to eavesdrop. Perhaps a little mojo for the Emap sale?
