NO matter the weather, the June bank holiday always brings with it the remembrance of holidays past.
Whether you are planning a future break . . . or indeed are already on a weekend away at the moment . . . it's all about packing this week. Forgotten how? Here are some tips. . .
Nobody wants the hassle of too much luggage. Get maximum wear out of the minimum amount by planning in advance.
One neutral coloured dress or trousers can be dressed up and down with accessories (which don't take up too much space). Choose a colour scheme.
Trousers at bottom (they are sturdiest) followed by shirts, tops and dresses.
Socks in shoes, knickers in mesh laundry bags or in space-saving side pockets.
Shoes are aligned so they click together in corners of the bag. If you are flying, pack your wash-bag, make-up etc so that you don't have to deal with that nasty seethrough bag scenario in the airport.
Don't waste time neatly folding clothes, as they will just crease. Do as backpackers do and roll them instead.
Lay each item face down, fold back sleeves and roll from bottom up. If you fold items together not only do you get further spacesaving, you also give extra cushioning which makes them even less likely to wrinkle.
Wrap delicate items such as evening wear in tissue paper. Plan to wear your bulkiest clothes on the plane (remember it's so randomly freezing sometimes onboard anyway; you might be thankful for the layers). Try not to bring too many pairs of shoes as they take up space . . . you only need two pairs . . . walking and evening.
Don't over-stuff. Leave room for things to bring back . . . even if it is a lot of holiday purchases your future children will laugh at. Then again, kaftans are having a huge fashion moment. Who knows what future trend you might spot on your jollies.
