FROCK ON

The transition period from the 1950s to the 1960s saw a seismic shift in fashion.

While the '50s was dominated by haute couture and ladylike glamour, fashion and photography in the '60s took their cues from younger people and Swinging London, as designers started to imitate street style. This period of change is the subject of a new exhibition opening this Saturday in Limerick's Hunt Museum. Called '50s Chic to 60s Cheek', it features original hats and handbags from designers such as Balmain, Dior and Givenchy, as representative of the '50s, with '60s pieces by Zandra Rhodes and Pierre Cardin, and photographic work by visionaries like Terence Donovan. The exhibition runs until 26 August. For further information visit www. huntmuseum. com or telephone 061 312833.

IT DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT

Did you ever fantasise about being able to do a Shakira, where your hips are able to gyrate in such a way that they don't seem to be connected to your torso? Or how about busting out some classic dance moves in a super-smooth Justin Timberlake stylee? Well now you can! Sort of. If you're not one of nature's naturally nimble-toed creatures, we can't promise miracles but always remember that God loves a trier. Check out the free summer outdoor dance workshops in jazz, tango, hip hop and contemporary dance styles taking place on the Ferry Plaza in Dun Laoghaire, next Saturday starting at midday, with a performance from Spanish group Debla Danza. The workshops are for adults and teens aged from 14 upwards and places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Log onto www.

PUTT IT RIGHT

Mark Twain described golf as "a good walk spoiled". If you're of the female persuasion and in agreement with the sentiment, a quick browse on www. pinkputters. com might change your mind. This is Ireland's new golf clothing and accessories website targeting the chic lady golfer. Brands include Peak performance, Greg Norman and Chervo, as well as Ame and Lulu accessories (right). The site is also the sole supplier of the innovative Evertan glove, which is 43% lighter than ordinary ones, with mesh fibres that allow the sun in and stop you from getting 'golfer's tan'. Very convenient.

BBASKET CASE

Here's how to be the most wonderful garden party guest ever. Arrive with a giant wicker picnic basket, courtesy of Irish Provincial Hampers.

BUY IT THIS WEEK

What's so great about this shoe? If you have to ask, you're a joyless soul. Everyone knows that life is so much better when you own a pair of pink metallic shoes. www. topshop. com,

OUT DAMN SPOT

While there's never a good time to get a spot (or spots . . .yikes), it's worse to get them in summer. This is the time of year when you're supposed to have lovely clear, lightly-tanned glowing skin, as opposed to being covered in panstick. If you are afflicted, try the new Pure Care Cover Stick from Dr Hauschka. Organic and fair-trade, it acts as a concealer and a treatment for spots, containing antibacterial oils like tea tree and manuka, as well as anthyllis and calendula to help the healing process. It's just what you need if the demon spot appears. Plus, the packaging is typically lovely so if it falls out of your handbag, you won't be mortified. It's available from health stores and pharmacies everywhere and it costs 14.80

LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG

People's opinions on cats tend to be extreme. There are those who consider them selfish, manipulative, cold-hearted balls of fluff, and then there are those who love their independent streak, wily ways and general cleverness. TV company Wildfire Films are looking for people who fall into the latter camp for a documentary that they're making for RTE about people who are passionate about cats.

Whether you own a cat (or many of them), work with cats in any capacity, or even love cats but can't have them near you for some reason (e. g. maybe your partner hates them), they'd love to hear from you. It could be the perfect way to express your feline side. Call Traolach in Wildfire Films on 01 6351733 or email info@wildfirefilms. net.
