THE publication of school league tables by the Irish media has been blamed for the rush to highachieving schools, particularly in south Dublin. The top-ranked schools have waiting lists up until 2019 and a very high proportion of their students go on to university. Most of these schools, however, offer only the traditional Leaving Cert, have an academic ethos, and few newcomer and special needs pupils.
