There was an almost audible sigh of relief from all and sundry when the ribbon was cut and Delgany's new clubhouse was declared open in good time for their centenary celebrations in 2008.
The house was due to open several months ago but it was extensively damaged by fire at the last moment. So, it has been fingers crossed as work progressed for a second time.
Club captains Tom Mason and Susan O'Loughlin were joined by last year's captain, Michael Scannell, for the ceremony which concluded an outlay of over 5-million on course and clubhouse improvements since 2000.
It's a great performance by a club which prides itself on being the only club in the world to have produced four Ryder Cup players in the persons of Harry Bradshaw, Jimmy Martin, John O'Leary and Eamonn Darcy. Imagine, with just a little more effort it could have been Delgany versus the USA.
Now the traditional Delgany welcome is out to all-comers with an astounding array of offers to visitors, including 18holes of golf on a most picturesque course followed by Irish breakfast for just 26.
