PEUGEOT still knows how to put on the style. The new 308 hatchback will arrive in the autumn to replace the 307.
The new model is longer with sleek lines, a huge grille and airintake. Overhead a panoramic windscreen drifts off into the roof over the driver's head. There are new light clusters front and rear with the spotlights up front getting a very distinctive style. At the rear there is a bustle type boot lid and a bulging bumper. There will be a three- and five-door, a SW and an estate version. Later a cabrio version will go into production and there are also plans for a compact MPV. It is understood that a GTi version is not under consideration in the early production stages.
Peugeot say there are big changes inside the larger cabin with a whole new design for the facia.
New improved materials are used to give a quality look and feel to the seats and trim. Expect to see a lot of upgraded technology and safety features to attract the younger buyers. The engine line-up has not yet been decided but there will be a 1.6-litre petrol and diesel offering in the mix. Prices are not being indicated until nearer the launch date but Peugeot say they will be very competitive.
