Guilty plea in garda shooting
Mick McCaffrey, Security Editor

A MAN has pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to an incident in which a uniformed garda was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting.

Jonathan Radford, 22, from Rutland Grove, Crumlin has admitted his role in the shooting of Sergeant Mark Clarke on 27 September 2006.

Radford pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 13 June to three charges of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, three of possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life and to unlawful interference with a motor vehicle.

He was remanded on bail to appear in court again next November when he will be sentenced.

Clarke was on duty outside a house at Monasterboice Road at around 7am when Radford and two associates pulled up in a Mitsubishi Lancer. The house had been shot at in a local dispute and the garda was preserving the scene. One of the men opened fire, hitting the garda with shotgun pellets.
